Bamidele-Salami a passenger in the draw

More from Bernie

It was a bit of a stroll for Anwar Bamidele-Salami against Marlborough United. Pendle Athletic managed a 1-1 draw, but that is mostly in spite of their man in the middle. He spent a fair amount of the game looking like he was trying to remember where he left his car keys.

There is a certain kind of luxury in watching a player glide across the turf while everyone else is fighting for their lives. Bamidele-Salami has that grace, certainly. He also has a habit of disappearing exactly when the lads need a proper bit of grit. He is often described as one for the future. The problem is that the future usually arrives about ten minutes after the final whistle.

He didn't do anything truly awful. He just didn't do much of anything at all. He managed a few tidy passes into the opposition's goalkeeper and a look of genuine surprise when the game actually became competitive. It is a polite way of playing football, but it doesn't often get you the three points.

There is no time to dwell on it. He has another matchday tomorrow. Hopefully, he decides to actually participate in it.
