NewsClerkenwell Town 1–0 Sussex Athletic: a disciplined shut out

Clerkenwell Town maintained a disciplined defensive line on Sunday 6 September to secure a 1-0 victory over Sussex Athletic. The evidence of their resilience was found in the absence of a second goal for either side, a result that leaves the record for the afternoon firmly in their favour.

Beeston AFC now occupy the top spot in the table with six points, having secured a 2-0 win against Aigburth FC. Llandaff Athletic also sit on six points following their 1-0 defeat of Kirkby FC, while Marlborough United occupy third place with four points after a 1-1 draw with Hitchin Athletic.

The pattern of the day was defined by a shortage of goals. Four matches ended in 1-1 draws, including the encounters between Bitterne FC and Wellsford Athletic, Wednesbury Athletic and Brixton AFC, Heaton AFC and Pendle Athletic, and the aforementioned Marlborough result. Armley Athletic managed a 1-0 win over Wessex United, while Jesmond AFC took a 2-1 victory over Mancunia FC. Edgbaston FC provided the only other multi-goal contribution of the day, edging past Stepney FC 2-1.

Heinrich Dombrowski currently leads the golden boot race with two goals. With 36 matchdays remaining in the season, there is very little time to reset before the next matchday tomorrow.
