Look, I'll be honest. I went into this thinking someone might actually try to win. Heaton AFC are 6th on 59 points, while Hitchin Athletic are languishing in 17th on 38. On paper, it's a mismatch. In reality, it was just two teams who have forgotten how to do anything other than split the points.

Sunday 30 August, Matchday 36, and the vibes were purely stagnant. Heaton have been drawing everything in sight. Hitchin have been doing the exact same thing. Watching the game felt like watching a very polite disagreement about who should take the lead, with neither side actually agreeing to do it.

I reckon it was a bit of a shock for Heaton, given they put three past Hitchin in their previous meeting. But that was a different lifetime. This was just ninety minutes of cautiousness.
