Jesmond AFC 1–0 Aigburth FC: Bacigalupo saves the day
Carlo Bacigalupo provided the decisive moment on Friday 28 August. He scored in the 88th minute to give Jesmond AFC a 1-0 win. It was a game that had largely lacked a certain spark (and perhaps a level of ambition), until Bacigalupo decided otherwise.
The result helps Jesmond, but the view from the top of the table is clearer. Marlborough United lead the league with 65 points after a 2-1 victory over Wednesbury Athletic. They have a four point cushion over Stepney FC, who sit on 61 points following a 2-0 win against Wigston FC. Wellsford Athletic remain in third with 58 points, having suffered a 1-2 defeat to Mancunia FC.
Elsewhere, the scoring was sparse. Beeston AFC and Hitchin Athletic played out a 0-0 draw. Heaton AFC and Brixton AFC managed a similar result. Acton United and Kirkby FC finished 1-1, as did Llandaff Athletic and Wessex United. Sussex Athletic and Pendle Athletic shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw. Crookes United managed a 1-0 win over Edgbaston FC.
In the race for the golden boot, Arthur Fortesque remains the man to beat. He is currently leading the pack with 12 goals.
