The league leaders arrived at the Parish Ground knowing a win would tighten their grip on top spot. The striker had already scored twice in that win at Acton; this one felt rather more significant.

The final whistle brought relief more than celebration. Marlborough remain top of the table, their lead intact, but the performance was workmanlike. Wednesbury, for their part, will wonder how they left empty-handed.
