Beeston AFC 0–2 Brixton AFC: early damage done
Two-nil to the visitors, and it was done by the half-hour mark. Beeston never really laid a glove on them.
Brixton struck inside five minutes. Terence Pinkerton, who has a taste for late interventions, decided to get this one out of the way early. Valentín Múgica-Olano provided the pass; Pinkerton provided the finish. Simple as that. Beeston, ninth and blowing hot and cold, suddenly looked very cold indeed.
The second arrived midway through the half, and it was a proper header. Linus Bickerton, repaying the favour from Múgica-Olano, met the cross and gave the keeper no chance. That is three goals in his last three for Bickerton (the sort of form that keeps a striker in the side). It also rather took the sting out of the contest as a spectacle.
Beeston tried to muster something after the break, as teams two down tend to. But Brixton, fourth and clearly fancying themselves, were comfortable. They had done the damage when it mattered and saw the game out with the sort of control that suggests their league position is no fluke. Beeston, for all their effort, never really looked like getting back into it.
The concern for Beeston will be that this was not a one-off. They have been inconsistent all season, and a home defeat to a side above them merely underlines the gap. They will need to find some answers, and quickly. Brixton, meanwhile, can enjoy the evening. Away from home, two goals before the half-hour, and a clean sheet. Allegedly, they earned it.
