PunditEdgbaston 0–2 Wellsford: Guadalupe needs to wake up

Ignacio Guadalupe spent most of the afternoon looking like a man waiting for a bus that had already gone. He is a proper talent on his day, but his day was nowhere to be seen. He drifted across the pitch with a certain ghostly quality, occasionally appearing just in time to misplace a pass.

It was a quiet way to help Edgbaston slide to a 0-2 defeat against Wellsford Athletic. He had a few opportunities to make things happen, but he seemed to be playing a different game to everyone else. He looked particularly lost during the second goal, standing about with an expression of mild curiosity while the ball sailed past him.

There is no point in getting fancy when the basics are missing. He is too often a luxury item in a side that cannot afford the VAT. He has a bit of magic in him, but magic is useless if you only produce it once every three months.

He cannot afford to drift. The next matchday is tomorrow. He can either start contributing or continue as a very expensive spectator. The lads in the stands are tired of watching him admire his own shadow.
