Noel Abbotswick rose to meet it. 1-0. The home side, 12th but proud of a fresh stride, had to respond.

4/ They did so at 80 minutes. Arthur Grasmere, a name like a Victorian cycling trophy, did the decent thing and pulled the ball back. The finish came from Tegwyn Mostyn-Davies. He had already scored in this fixture's previous encounter. He scored again. 1-1.

5/ The last ten minutes compressed. Edgbaston looked for a winner they had not earned. Sussex looked for a second they had not expected. Neither came. It is the rare stalemate where the halves are a break-even sheet, provided that sheet is heavily bleached.
