Brixton AFC 2–0 Wigston FC: four points clear

Brixton AFC consolidated their lead at the top of the table on Monday 17 August. A 2-0 win at Wigston FC takes them to 45 points. They are now four clear of second-place Marlborough United, who could only manage a 1-1 draw against Pendle Athletic.
The most efficient performance of the day came from Edgbaston FC. They visited Aigburth FC and left with a 4-0 victory. It was a clinical outing (if clinical is the word for a Monday afternoon in August). Wellsford Athletic also picked up a win, edging past Jesmond AFC 2-1 to move into third place with 38 points.
Llandaff Athletic secured a 3-1 win over Sussex Athletic. Olaf Goldschmidt provided the bulk of the work, scoring twice. He looks, from a distance, as if he might be delivering a parcel.
Much of the day was defined by a stubborn refusal to win. Crookes United and Beeston AFC finished 2-2, as did Heaton AFC and Acton United. Stepney FC and Mancunia FC shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw, while Marlborough United and Pendle Athletic ended with the same score. Wednesbury Athletic and Kirkby FC managed a 0-0, a scoreline likely to be described as a tactical stalemate by people who enjoy that sort of thing.
Wessex United claimed the only other victory of the day, beating Hitchin Athletic 1-0.
Arthur Fortesque remains the leading marksman in the league on 11 goals. We go again. Typical really.
