Brixton 1–0 Wessex: a four point gap
Stepney FC claimed the bragging rights on Saturday 15 August with a 3-2 win over Hitchin Athletic. It was a tight affair (allegedly), but Stepney found the gear required to settle the rivalry for now. Hitchin will have to settle for the short trip home and a quiet evening.
Brixton AFC strengthened their grip on the league with a 1-0 victory at Wessex United. They now sit on 41 points, four clear of second-placed Marlborough United. Marlborough failed to make ground, playing out a 2-2 draw with Kirkby FC. Wellsford Athletic remain in third with 35 points after a 2-1 win at Crookes United.
The rest of the day was largely a collection of narrow margins. Aigburth FC, Beeston AFC and Edgbaston FC all secured wins by a single goal or a clean sheet. Aigburth took a 1-0 result at Wigston FC, while Beeston beat Acton United by the same score. Edgbaston were more clinical, winning 2-0 at Wednesbury Athletic.
Llandaff Athletic also managed a 2-0 win over Mancunia FC. Heaton AFC edged past Sussex Athletic 2-1. Jesmond AFC and Pendle Athletic played out a goalless draw, a result that likely pleased neither side but offended nobody in particular.
