Egremont hits five in Heaton draw

Heaton AFC played out a 2-2 draw with Pendle Athletic on Friday 14 August. It was a result that felt largely inevitable. The highlight, if one can call it that, was Quentin Egremont scoring. He has now reached five goals for the season.

OpinionEgremont hits five in Heaton draw

It is a tally that suggests a certain level of reliability. He is not exactly haunting the dreams of defenders, but he is there. He tends to find himself in the right place at the right time (usually while everyone else is slightly out of position). There is something quietly admirable about a man who knows exactly how to reach five goals without ever looking like he is trying too hard.

Heaton have a short window before their next outing. They are currently drifting in the middle of the table, a place where the air is thin and the ambition is thinner. Egremont's fifth goal provides a flicker of momentum, though it is the kind of momentum that usually leads to another draw.

Elsewhere, Brixton AFC managed to keep their hold on the top spot. Marlborough United also won, ensuring the scramble for the title remains a very crowded affair.

For Heaton, the goal is a positive. It is a small victory in a desert of inconsistency. They will hope Egremont finds a sixth tomorrow, provided he can remember which way the pitch is facing. Typical really.
