Brixton AFC 2–1 Beeston AFC: a fast start

The match was effectively decided before the Beeston supporters had finished finding their seats. In the first minute, Valentín Múgica-Olano headed home a cross from Linus Bickerton. It was a reasonably efficient start for Múgica-Olano, who has found the net in three of his last four outings. The goal forced Beeston to abandon their initial shape, leaving them structurally exposed.

Brixton exploited this lack of cohesion in the tenth minute when Bickerton scored from open play. To the neutral observer, the second goal looked like a lapse in Beeston’s concentration, though the xG suggests Brixton were simply sustaining a higher volume of progressive carries into the final third. The result moves Brixton further clear in the top six, while Beeston remain adrift in ninth. The numbers suggest a dominant opening ten minutes were sufficient to kill the contest, even if the second half lacked any real ambition from either side.
