Sussex Athletic 2–0 Hitchin Athletic: a rare shut out
Sussex Athletic managed to keep the ball away from their own goal for ninety minutes on Thursday 6 August, securing a 2-0 win against Hitchin Athletic. It was a professional enough performance, if a bit dry. The clean sheet remained intact.
Mancunia FC were significantly more prolific, brushing aside Wigston FC 3-0. Brixton AFC also enjoyed a productive afternoon, visiting Acton United and leaving with a 4-1 win. Wessex United fared similarly in their 3-1 win at Crookes United.
Other results were more tentative. Llandaff Athletic and Marlborough United played out a 0-0 draw. This allows Marlborough United to retain their spot at the top of the table with 24 points. Jesmond AFC follow on 23, after a 1-1 draw with Stepney FC, while Wellsford Athletic sit third on 22 points following a 2-0 win over Edgbaston FC.
Pendle Athletic and Kirkby FC settled for a 2-2 draw. Heaton AFC took the narrowest of wins, beating Wednesbury Athletic 1-0, while Beeston AFC edged out Aigburth FC 2-1.
Arthur Fortesque remains the man to beat in the golden boot race, currently sitting on seven goals (allegedly some were strikes, others were hopeful scuffles).
There is little time to reset. The league moves into the next matchday tomorrow.
