Jesmond AFC 2–0 Wigston FC: a view from the top

Jesmond AFC have claimed the summit of the table. A professional 2-0 win at Wigston FC puts them on 19 points, though they share the top spot with Marlborough United. Marlborough arrived at that position via a 3-1 victory over Crookes United. It is a tight race, to be fair.

Heaton AFC sit in third with 17, having played out a 1-1 draw against Llandaff Athletic. The day provided a few more outliers. Edgbaston FC managed a 4-1 win over Mancunia FC, a scoreline that suggests Mancunia may have momentarily lost the dressing room. Beeston AFC fared even better, scoring five goals in a 5-3 win at Stepney FC. It was a chaotic affair (mostly a bag of sand in midfield), but one that suited the visitors.

Elsewhere, the scorelines were more subdued. Hitchin Athletic and Kirkby FC played out a 0-0 draw that lacked any real urgency. Brixton AFC and Pendle Athletic managed a similar result, though the atmosphere was allegedly slightly more lively. In the race for the golden boot, Wilson Astbury remains the man to beat. He currently leads the pack with five goals. He is unlikely to be resting on his laurels with the next matchday arriving tomorrow. There is very little time to reset before the cycle begins again.
