Stepney FC 1–6 Wellsford Athletic: a stroll in the park

Wellsford Athletic provided the afternoon's most emphatic result, strolling to a 6-1 win over Stepney FC. It was a professional display, mostly. Stepney managed a consolation goal, which is the sort of detail that keeps the statisticians happy.

Elsewhere, the scorelines were considerably tighter. Brixton AFC, Llandaff Athletic, Aigburth FC, and Wednesbury Athletic all secured 1-0 victories. These are the kind of results that usually involve a lot of hopeful long balls and a goalkeeper having the game of his life. Edgbaston FC and Hitchin Athletic played out a 3-3 draw, a match that likely left both sets of defenders feeling quite tired. Jesmond AFC edged Crookes United 3-2, while Marlborough United took a 2-1 win over Acton United. Wessex United were the other clear winners of Saturday 1 August, beating Pendle Athletic 3-0. Wigston FC and Heaton AFC shared the spoils in a goalless draw.

The table is currently a three-way deadlock at the summit. Jesmond AFC, Marlborough United, and Heaton AFC all sit on 15 points. It is a precarious position, though admittedly a better one than being at the bottom.

In the race for the golden boot, Wilson Astbury leads the pack with five goals. He is currently the man to beat, provided the opposition remembers to mark him.
