The breakdown began early. Tatsuya Iijima opened the scoring in the 10th minute, finishing a move carved out by Adriano Crialese. It was a tidy start for a man who has spent the last few days treating the 90th minute like a personal playground. By the 27th minute, William Cranford made it 2-0. In fairness, Cranford is a specialist in the dramatic, having limped off injured against Heaton earlier in the week only to return as the architect of Stepney's collapse.

The momentum didn't just shift: it vanished. Domingos Cumaru added a third in the 37th minute, and Iijima tucked away a fourth on the stroke of half-time. There is a particular kind of misery in the walk to the dressing room when you are 4-0 down, punctuated only by the sound of the home crowd wondering where the tickets went.

Stepney managed a consolation through Mikael Adesanya in the 53rd minute, a brief flicker of life that suggested a fightback. It was a hopeful gesture, really. Wellsford responded with the clinical indifference of a calculator. Cumaru grabbed his second in the 60th minute, and Tobias Renouf put the final nail in the coffin in the 65th after a neat ball from Reinout van Doorn.

In terms of individual output, Iijima remains the gold standard for this Wellsford side, though Cumaru’s brace puts him in a compelling position for the top spot in my current rankings. Stepney entered the match in good nick, but they spent ninety minutes discovering that form is a fragile thing. The numbers tell us Wellsford dominated, but the scoreline suggests they were simply playing a different sport.

There is very little time to reset. Wellsford will look to carry this freakish efficiency into Matchday 8 tomorrow.
