Kirkby FC produced a five goal haul to dismantle Aigburth FC 5–2 on Friday 31 July. It was a clash between two sides currently inhabiting the basement of the table, and for a brief window, it looked as though Aigburth would be the ones to escape the cellar.

The afternoon turned surreal in the third minute when George Cardew saw red for a second bookable offence. In fairness, Aigburth looked entirely unbothered by the numerical disadvantage. They scored twice within nine minutes, with Khotso Eke-Ihejirika and Cecil Dornbridge converting quickly to make it 2–0. It was an efficient output that suggested Aigburth had found a way to thrive while playing in a phone box.

The momentum shifted in the 31st minute when Lourens Buisma-Veld scored for Kirkby, aided by Cecil Cottingham. It was the sort of goal that reminds a home crowd that the game is still technically happening. Solomon Trent leveled the scoring in the 47th minute, a strike that effectively ended Aigburth's dream of a ten-man miracle.

As for the individual rankings, Trent was the standout. He provided the assist for Cecil Cottingham's 71st-minute header and later set up Egidio Castagna for a goal in the 87th. The breakdown of the final ten minutes was particularly bleak for Aigburth, who had lost Federico Quinteros to a straight red in the 81st. With Aigburth now reduced to nine men, Trent added a final header in the 88th minute to make it 5–2. It was a clinical conclusion to a match that had started as a disaster.

Aigburth had the lead, the confidence, and then, eventually, only nine players. It was typical, really. They now have very little time to reset before Matchday 7 tomorrow.
