Jesmond AFC move top after five goals against Acton
Thursday 30 July brought a high scoring afternoon for a few. Jesmond AFC took the top spot in the table with a 5-1 dismantling of Acton United. They sit on 12 points now. Brixton AFC and Marlborough United follow closely behind on 11, though Brixton had to work harder for a 1-0 win over Edgbaston FC.
Stepney FC provided the day's most one-sided affair, scoring seven against Pendle Athletic. It was 7-2 by the final whistle. Pendle's defence appeared, for a time, to be made of wet cardboard. Wigston FC also enjoyed a comfortable run, beating Crookes United 3-0.
Elsewhere, Heaton AFC survived a scare in a 4-3 victory over Beeston AFC. It was a chaotic encounter. Wellsford Athletic showed similar efficiency to Wigston, winning 3-0 away at Llandaff Athletic. Mancunia FC managed a narrow 3-2 win at Wednesbury Athletic, while Wessex United edged Kirkby FC 1-0. Aigburth FC fell 2-1 to Hitchin Athletic. Marlborough United played out a 1-1 draw with Sussex Athletic (a result that keeps them in the top three, regardless).
Wilson Astbury continues to lead the golden boot race. He has five goals after five matchdays. He is currently the only man in the league who seems to know where the goal is.
