To follow that run of form by spending the final minutes of Thursday in the dressing room is a very specific kind of tragedy.

The breakdown of the match shows a game of minimal risk and even smaller reward. Edgbaston had the individual quality to force a draw, but they lacked the clinical edge to punish a Brixton side that looked quite happy to let the clock do the heavy lifting.
