Wellsford Athletic top the table after Matchday 2

The goals flowed with a suspicious lack of restraint this weekend. Beeston AFC provided the afternoon's entertainment, scoring seven at Acton United. Acton managed three of their own, which is usually enough to avoid a lecture from the manager, but not quite enough to stop the bleeding.

Wigston FC took a comfortable 3-1 win at Aigburth, while Wednesbury Athletic fared similarly with a 3-1 result away at Edgbaston. Heaton AFC scraped a 2-1 victory at Sussex Athletic, and Marlborough United took the three points at Kirkby in a 2-1 affair. Llandaff Athletic also managed a 2-1 win, this time against Mancunia FC.

Jesmond AFC travelled to Pendle Athletic and won 1-0. It was a tidy result, if a bit dull. Wellsford Athletic were the most efficient of the lot, beating Crookes United 2-0. They now sit atop the table with six points. (They have probably already started polishing the trophy).

Some matches were less productive. Brixton AFC and Wessex United played out a 0-0 draw, as did Hitchin Athletic and Stepney FC. Both games were essentially an exercise in patience.

In the Golden Boot race, Bruno Costantini is currently leading the pack with three goals. He is allegedly in a vein of form that could last until Tuesday.
