Mancunia FC take early lead after Jesmond rout

It was a fairly standard opening day. Mancunia FC currently sit top of the table, though they have a goal difference that feels slightly optimistic. They handled Jesmond AFC with a 4-1 win, providing some early relief for the travelling support.

Elsewhere, the results were predictably varied. Acton United managed a 1-0 win at Wigston FC. It wasn't a spectacle, but it counts. Wellsford Athletic also looked comfortable, taking a 2-0 victory away at Beeston AFC. Brixton AFC fared well too, winning 3-1 at Wednesbury Athletic, while Crookes United kept a clean sheet in their 2-0 win over Sussex Athletic.

Edgbaston FC scraped a 2-1 win at Stepney FC. Marlborough United did similarly, beating Hitchin Athletic 2-1. The remaining fixtures ended in stalemates: Wessex United and Aigburth FC played out a 2-2 draw, while Heaton AFC and Pendle Athletic (and Llandaff Athletic and Kirkby FC) shared the points in 1-1 draws.

The Golden Boot race is currently a very tight affair. Adolf Achterberg leads the pack with one goal. It is a modest start, to be fair. He is currently the most prolific man in the league, which is a comforting thought for those who spent the afternoon watching the 1-1 draws.

The table is a blank slate, mostly. Mancunia FC have the early advantage, though the season is long and the rain usually starts in October. We move on to the next one.
